Lean & Six Sigma Training Overview

“Lean” is a Japanese approach to management that focuses on cutting out waste whilst ensuring quality. This approach can be applied to all aspects of a business – from design, production, to distribution. These days, as its extensively applicable tools, Lean is applied in any industry but not only in manufacturing.

Eliminating waste along entire value streams, instead of at isolated points, creating processes that need less human effort, less space, less capital, and less time to make products and services at far less cost and with much fewer defects compared with the traditional business systems.

“Six Sigma” is the most effective methodology available for improving the performance of any organisation by minimising the defects in its products or services. Every error committed has a cost associated with it in the form of losing customers, redoing a task, replacing a part, waste time/material or losing efficiency. Six Sigma measures defects at a granular level and thus helps in reducing these defects. It is a collection of techniques and methodology for uncovering root causes to understand and reduce variation, consequently improving the quality of products and services, substantially contributing to increased customer satisfaction.

“Lean Six Sigma (LSS)” is a powerful, flexible and proven cost and waste elimination method that has been used successfully in both private and public organisations. It is applicable equally to both industrial/manufacturing processes and transactional/customer service processes. As a combined entity, LSS has been on the scene since the 1990s. Since then, LSS has been shown time and again to enable organisations to reduce total costs by eliminating wasted time and activities from operations. This waste reduction effort has also served to increase the quality of the organisation’s products. Most importantly, LSS builds foundations within organisations that stimulate and nurture cultures of continuous improvement, thus providing these benefits both today and into the future.
